About the Training Package

Legal

This unit standard is for persons who need to demonstrate knowledge of the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act No 60 of 2000), applicable to legally possess a firearm. Persons credited with this unit standard are able to:

• Demonstrate understanding of the statutory duties and obligations of firearm ownership as contained in the Act
• Demonstrate understanding of the statutory prescriptions applicable to the possession, handling, carrying, storage and use of firearms as prescribed by the Act
• Demonstrate understanding of the statutory prescriptions applicable to the possession and storage of ammunition as prescribed by the Act
  

Learning assumed to be in place:

• No prior firearm learning is assumed
• Communication at NQF Level 2

Basic Handgun

This unit standard is for anyone who privately uses a handgun and/or who requires a Competency Certificate. Persons credited with this unit standard are capable of:

• Handling a handgun
• Using a handgun
• Performing basic inspection and maintenance

Learning assumed to be in place:

• 117705: Demonstrate knowledge of the Firearms Control Act (Act No. 60 of 2000)
• Communication NQF Level 2.
